GO Community Centre
In 2010 Clark Builders was selecting its design team to compete in the design/build submission for the GO Centre, a major sports facility on the University of Alberta south campus. HIP Architects joined the team as prime consultant and after prequalification, competed on the pursuit of the project in which Clark was the successful contractor. The main form of the building is very simple due to the large spans of the courts for volleyball and basketball. This was rationalized into a simple, cost effective, pre-engineered structural system due to a major cost effective issue for the client group. The building has a two storey walkway with viewing from above and below. In addition to the courts is a state of the art 2400 seat competition court as well as a gymnastics area. The linkage to the existing Saville tennis facility consists of an impressive two storey lobby with more engaging material and design than the functional courts.
